Filming for a History Channel Production

The Longship company was contacted by Curtis Productions as it seems they thought Skelmir and our company of historical re-enactors would fit right in for a production on which they were working. However, since the subject was "Atlantis", some adjustments had to be made. Remove the Dragon's Prow from Skelmir and you had a pretty good representation of a square sailed Mediterranean vessel of the Greek myth of Atlantis time. Since we regularly portray Vikings we could adjust to portray Phoenicians, with a new wardrobe of course. So that's what we did, in the middle of January, 2005 on Canyon Lake, near New Braunfels, Texas.

Skelmir sans Dragon Prow looking like it could be of ancient Mediterranean origin
This may be alright for the sunny Mediterranean but its mid January, no sun, cold enough to see your breath and, look how they had us dressed
The film and production crew stayed in their nice warm jackets and footgear
In between scenes, the more intelligent of us sought some warmer covering
First we had to row up the lake while the film crews shoot from the chase boats
Then we sailed down the lake. We repeated this four times before the day was out.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Longship Company spectators stayed nice and comfortable on the chase boats. All in all, we spent nearly 9 hours going up and down the lake and numerous scenes on the shore for a grand total of 1 minute and 42 seconds of us being shown when the one hour long program finally aired on the History Channel
